Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Iceberg' is a large, fast-growing cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Swoosh'* and *H. tibae*. It is visually distinctive for its broad, medium green leaves with creamy white, flat margins approximately 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide, and its substantial mound-forming habit.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense, rounded mound reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 55 inches (139.7 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage remains most vibrant. The large, 12-inch-long leaves with six vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides make it a strong textural presence in the border or woodland garden. It pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its size precludes container cultivation for most settings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor regularly and apply controls as needed. This cultivar is hardy in typical hosta-growing zones.
