Overview

Registered in 1983 by J. Morss, this small hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with light gold chartreuse margins, a color pattern inherited from its parent but expressed on a much smaller scale.

In the Garden

'Julie Morss' reaches a mature diameter of 20 inches (50.8 cm) and a height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), with scapes rising to 18 inches (45.7 cm). It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain brightest; too much sun may scorch the leaves. Its compact size suits the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, and it pairs well with smaller ferns or woodland groundcovers.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially in containers. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions; deer may also browse the foliage.
