Overview
Registered in 2006, *Hosta* 'Gregory Ambrose Cleghorn' is a large, upright cultivar whose pod parent is *H.* 'Julie Morss' and whose pollen parent is unknown. It is visually distinctive for its viridescent (greening) blue-green foliage, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases, and a pronounced cupped, moderately corrugated texture.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), this slow-growing hosta is best sited in partial to full shade, where its heavy substance and glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides are most effective. The upright scapes, reaching 21 to 36 inches (53.3 to 91.4 cm), bear medium green flowers that rise well above the foliage. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials that contrast with its broad, cupped leaves.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended in typical hosta-growing zones.
