Overview

Registered in 1994, this small hosta cultivar is a hybrid distinguished by its light green to yellow leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins. The foliage is dull on the upper surface and slightly shiny beneath, with leaves measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, featuring five vein pairs and rounded bases.

In the Garden

'Hosta' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain most distinct, and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its small size makes it suitable for container cultivation, rock gardens, or the front of shaded borders.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. This cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
