Overview
Registered in 2015 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Gunther's Prize', this large cultivar is distinguished by its nearly round, blue-green leaves with a narrow, flat, light green margin. The foliage is slightly shiny above with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the leaves are lightly cupped with a cordate base.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Gunther's Reward' forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height. Its large leaves—10.5 inches (26.7 cm) long and 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) wide—make it suitable for mid-border or woodland garden positions in partial to full shade. The green scapes rise 32 to 36 inches (81.3 to 91.4 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
