Overview

Registered in 2000 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Robin Hood' is a large, variegated cultivar distinguished by its light green leaves with broad, medium green, slightly rippled margins. The leaf centre is a pale green, while the 3-inch-wide margins provide a bold contrast, and the leaves have a cordate (heart-shaped) base with a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside.

In the Garden

'Robin Hood' forms a substantial clump reaching 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 33 inches (84 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large, textured leaves make it an effective groundcover or specimen in woodland borders. The 24- to 30-inch (61–76 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer, attracting pollinators. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
