Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Green River' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Yellow River' and is classified as a giant cultivar. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of medium green leaves with heavy, rippled margins, creating a textured, undulating appearance that distinguishes it from its parent.

In the Garden

'Green River' reaches a mature spread of 66 inches (167.6 cm) and a height of 36 inches (91.4 cm), making it suitable for use as a bold specimen or as a backdrop in larger borders. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its upright growth habit allows it to integrate well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns or astilbes. Given its substantial size, it is not recommended for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Green River' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
