Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Grandpa's Love' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage on the pollen side, with *H.* 'Enchanted Mist' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is the uniform appearance of every leaf, each bearing a dark green center with a wide, flat, yellow margin.

In the Garden

'Grandpa's Love' forms an upright clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of a border or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas. Its compact size and consistent leaf pattern also make it a candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, though the slightly cupped leaves may offer some resistance to foliar pests.
