Overview
A 2016 sport of *Hosta* 'Fire Island', 'Audrey's Island' is a small cultivar distinguished by its light green leaves with narrow, yellow, slightly rippled margins and red petioles. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 4 inches long and 3 inches wide, have a cordate base and a moderately wavy overall form, with 6 to 8 vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature height of 12 inches and a spread of 22.5 inches, 'Audrey's Island' forms a dense, mound-like clump with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its small size. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured groundcovers that complement its compact habit.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, though the small leaf size and moderate growth rate reduce vulnerability in shaded sites.
