Overview
Registered in 1983 by R. Savory, this small hosta is a sport of *Hosta* 'Golden Tiara'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves edged in yellow-gold margins, a color pattern inherited from its parent but expressed with narrower, more consistent gold borders.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Golden Scepter' reaches a mature diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and a height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), with scapes rising to 22 inches (55.9 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, though the gold margins are most vivid with some morning sun. Its compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers. Companion plants include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
