Overview

Registered in 1983 by K. Vaughn, *Hosta* 'Changing Moods' is a small cultivar derived from *H.* 'Janet' as seed parent and a sibling to *H.* 'William Lachman' as pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves edged with bright lemon yellow margins, a combination that creates strong contrast on a compact plant.

In the Garden

With a mature diameter of 6 inches (15.2 cm) and height of 5 inches (12.7 cm), 'Changing Moods' is suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for small hostas, and pairs well with other miniature perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Sedum*. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container culture.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through routine monitoring or protective measures.
