Overview
Registered in 2009, 'Fore Sail' is a small-sized sport of a *Hosta* 'Splashed Leather' seedling, distinguished by its extreme leaf gloss combined with a dark green center and pure white margins. The broadly ovate leaves are 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) wide, with 7 to 8 vein pairs, and feature slightly rippled white margins 0.25 to 0.5 inches (0.6 to 1.3 cm) wide.
In the Garden
'Fore Sail' forms a mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a medium to fast growth rate. Its small size and glossy foliage make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers in partial to full shade. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, or small-leaved impatiens.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Fore Sail' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for these pests in typical hosta-growing zones.
