Overview

Registered in 2014 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Oil Paint', 'Eco Mirror' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intensely shiny, dark green leaves with flat margins. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 7.125 inches (18.1 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, exhibit a very glossy surface on both top and underside, with 9 to 10 vein pairs and a rounded base.

In the Garden

'Eco Mirror' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 22.25 inches (56.5 cm) in diameter and 13.125 inches (33.3 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its reflective foliage brightens darker areas. The dark green scapes, ranging from 16.875 to 24.25 inches (42.9 to 61.6 cm) tall, bear flowers typical of the genus. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials in woodland borders or shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Eco Mirror' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
