Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Rain' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Frosted Morning' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Beer Belly Blues' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with creamy white to pale yellow margins that exhibit streaking, a trait that extends into the petioles and scapes.
In the Garden
'Cosmic Rain' forms a mound-like clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 39 inches (99.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as with most hostas.
