Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Pete's Impression' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a cross between *H. 'Gray Cole'* (streaked) and *H. 'Kifukurin Ubataki'*. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green leaves with creamy white streaks and margins, a combination that the plant holds well as it matures.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching approximately 36 inches (91 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (39 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. Its lance-shaped leaves, 11 inches (28 cm) long and 4.75 inches (12 cm) wide, bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and have flat margins with tapered bases. The scapes, 17 to 22 inches (44 to 56 cm) tall, are green with creamy white streaks. 'Pete's Impression' performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
