Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Prize' is a large cultivar resulting from the cross (*H.* 'Sea Prize' × *H.* 'Beer Belly Blues') pollinated by *H.* 'Cosmic Hippie'. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, moderately cupped leaves with dark green centers and streaked, greenish-yellow to white margins that are slightly rippled, combined with a moderate growth rate and a dense, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
Reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 43 inches (109.2 cm) in diameter at maturity, 'Cosmic Prize' forms a substantial mound suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in part-shade to shade. Its large, cupped leaves provide textural contrast when paired with fine-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The dark green scapes, rising 28 to 32 inches (71.1 to 81.2 cm), bear flowers typical of the genus.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for optimal leaf condition in typical hosta-growing zones.
