Overview

Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Journey' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross of (*H.* 'Frosty Morning' × *H.* 'Warwick Comet') with pollen from a *H.* 'Cosmic Hippie' seedling. Its most distinctive feature is the leaf surface: a very shiny, intensely blue-green ground with streaked dark green and medium blue-green variegation, complemented by slightly rippled margins.

In the Garden

'Cosmic Journey' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the leaf coloration remains truest. The substantial, nearly round leaves with cordate bases pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials that contrast in texture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and protect young foliage as needed.
