Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster (AHS), *Hosta* 'Blueberry Swirl' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, blue-green leaves with streaked pale yellow and greenish-white margins. The leaf blades, measuring 6 inches long and 5 inches wide, are lightly cupped and corrugated with 11 to 13 vein pairs, displaying a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
'Blueberry Swirl' reaches a mature spread of 28 inches (71.1 cm) and a height of 18 inches (45.7 cm), with an upright, moderate growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if necessary.
