Overview

Registered in 2012 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Jade Cascade', 'Bolt' is a giant variegated cultivar distinguished by its exceptionally long, arching leaves borne on tall petioles. The foliage presents medium green, slightly rippled margins with a moderately flat, long-ovate blade reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in length and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in width, with 19 vein pairs.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 38 inches (96.5 cm) and height of 40 inches (101.6 cm), 'Bolt' forms an upright, substantial clump suitable for shade to partial shade borders. Its tall scapes, reaching 45 to 50 inches (114.3 to 127.0 cm), rise well above the foliage and bear green flowers. This cultivar pairs effectively with other bold-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera* in woodland settings, though its large size precludes container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Typical hosta-growing zones apply; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed with appropriate controls. Growth rate is slow to medium.
