Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek through the American Hosta Society, 'Jade Cascade' is a giant, upright hosta cultivar of unknown seedling parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the variegated foliage, with medium to dark green margins surrounding a lighter leaf center, borne on plants reaching 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height.
In the Garden
This large specimen is best suited to partial to full shade, where its substantial leaves can develop fully without scorching. At nearly 19 inches (47.6 cm) long and 10 inches (25.4 cm) wide, with 16 pairs of veins and an ovate shape with cordate base, it functions as a bold accent or background plant in woodland gardens and mixed borders. Its upright habit makes it suitable for pairing with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that complement its scale.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as shoots emerge. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
