Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster through the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Yoshie' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage distinguished by its broadly ovate, green-margined leaves with moderately wavy edges and curled, pointed tips. The variegated foliage presents a green margin surrounding a lighter center, with 8 to 10 vein pairs per leaf.
In the Garden
'Yoshie' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size suits placement in mixed shade borders or as a groundcover under deciduous trees. The wavy leaf texture and curled tips provide visual interest when paired with ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured shade perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, though the moderately wavy leaf surface may offer slight resistance to foliar pests.
