Overview
Registered in 2000 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Moon Glow', 'Xmas' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with creamy white, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blades are slightly shiny above and very shiny beneath, with cordate bases and 12 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Xmas' forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. The green-and-white variegation pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Xmas' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor accordingly in areas where these pests are prevalent.
