Overview

Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Whirlwind', 'Whirlwind Romance' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with creamy white centers and dark green margins. The leaf has a dull upper surface and a thin glaucous bloom underneath, with moderate waviness along the ovate blade.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the variegation remains stable, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size makes it suitable for border fronts or shaded rock gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
