H. ‘Okaydokey’

Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Okaydokey' originated as a sport of *H. 'Aoki'* discovered at Walters Gardens, Inc. and named by J. Wilkins. This medium-sized cultivar is visually distinctive for its golden yellow leaf centers framed by dark green, slightly rippled margins, producing a reverse-variegated appearance.

In the Garden

'H'Okaydokey' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 58 inches (147.3 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for gold-centered hostas, where the bright foliage illuminates darker garden areas. The substantial leaves, measuring 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide with 11 vein pairs, pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
