Year registered2000
Section classIII-2

Overview

Registered in 2000 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'War Party' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green foliage with a pronounced glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces and slightly rippled margins. The leaves are broadly ovate with rounded bases, measuring 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with 11 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'War Party' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its blue-green foliage pairs well with golden or chartreuse-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or *Carex elata* 'Aurea'. The tall scapes, rising 30 to 40 inches (76.2 to 101.6 cm), bear near-white flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are advisable, as both can damage the glaucous leaf surface.
