Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Valley's Magnum' is a giant blue-green cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Empress Wu' as the pod parent, with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, heavily rippled leaf margins, thick leaf substance, white leaf undersides, and exceptionally large, broadly ovate leaves that are lightly cupped and deeply wavy.

'Valley's Magnum' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 47 inches (120 cm) and a height of 39 inches (100 cm), with upright foliage and a fast growth rate. It is best suited to partial to dappled shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green coloration and corrugated texture are most pronounced. Its substantial size makes it an effective specimen or background plant in shaded borders, and it pairs well with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its bold leaf form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaf substance offers moderate resistance to slugs, though standard preventive measures may still be warranted in damp conditions.
