Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams' registered in 2001, 'Susan-elizabeth' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaf margins and broadly ovate, cordate-based foliage. The leaves measure 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long by 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, with 12 to 13 pairs of veins, and present a dull surface on both top and underside.

In the Garden

'Susan-elizabeth' forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds. Its medium size allows pairing with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials without overwhelming smaller companions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Susan-elizabeth' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
