Overview
Registered in 2002 by Paul Ruh, this medium-sized cultivar produces intensely blue-green leaves that are notably vivid among blue-leaved hostas. The ovate, cordate-based leaves feature 13 prominent vein pairs, lightly wavy margins, and a dull surface on both sides, forming a compact mound 10 inches (25.4 cm) tall and 22.5 inches (57.2 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Azure Cherub' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue coloration is most pronounced. The moderate growth rate and mound-like habit make it suitable for the middle of the border or as a specimen in shade gardens, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other fine-textured perennials. Its compact dimensions also suit container plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
