H. ‘Super Hero’

Overview

Registered in 2005 by originator S. Tylinski, this medium-sized cultivar resulted from a seedling pod parent crossed with *Hosta* 'Filagree' as the pollen parent. *Hosta* 'Super Hero' is visually distinguished by its dark green leaves with white margins, broadly ovate shape, and lightly wavy edges, combined with fragrant flowers.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Super Hero' forms a mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other shade perennials such as ferns or astilbes. Its medium size makes it suitable for border plantings or as a specimen in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and take protective measures as needed in the garden.
