Overview
Registered in 2001 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Regal Splendor', 'Splendid Reign' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its green leaves with greenish-gold margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 10 inches long and 5.5 inches wide, have a dull upper surface and slightly shiny underside, with 6 to 7 vein pairs and a lightly wavy, slightly rippled margin approximately 0.5 inches wide.
In the Garden
'Splendid Reign' forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches in height and 40 inches in diameter, with scapes rising 24 to 34 inches above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. Pale lavender flowers appear in summer on green scapes, complementing the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
