Overview

Registered in 2015 by an unknown hybridizer, *Hosta* 'Sophie' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its dark green, very shiny leaves with narrow, slightly rippled margins and a tapered, arrow-shaped base. The leaf surface is deeply veined with nine pairs of veins, while the underside remains dull in contrast to the glossy upper surface.

In the Garden

'Sophie' forms an upright clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 37 inches (94.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. The glossy, dark green foliage pairs well with lighter-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Sophie' shows no exceptional resistance, standard slug and deer deterrents are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
