Overview

Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Orange Marmalade', 'Smash Hit' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by blue-green leaves with wide, dark green, wavy margins. The leaf blade is golden yellow with a 0.6 cm wide dark green border, and both surfaces bear a glaucous bloom. Compared to its parent, it exhibits wider margins and thicker leaf substance.

In the Garden

'Smash Hit' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 61.0 cm in height and 35.6 cm in diameter at maturity. Its very slow growth rate and medium size make it suitable for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in partial shade. The blue-green and gold coloration pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not recommended for container culture due to its eventual spread.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Smash Hit' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
