Overview

Registered in 2014 by J. Schwarz, *Hosta* 'Ruth' is a sport of *Hosta* 'My Girl' distinguished by its medium blue-green, lance-shaped leaves with slightly rippled margins and a notably upright, compact habit. The leaves are moderately wavy and flat, with a slightly shiny surface on both sides, and exhibit eight pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Hosta' is a small-sized cultivar, reaching approximately 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 23 inches (58.4 cm) in diameter at maturity, with a moderate growth rate. Its upright form and blue-green foliage make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant in partial to full shade. The compact dimensions also allow for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
