Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Silver Light' is a small cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Hadspen Blue' and *Hosta* 'Sky Dancer'. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green leaves with a persistent glaucous bloom on both surfaces, producing a silvery appearance that is unusually long-lasting through the growing season.
In the Garden
'Silver Light' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching approximately 24 cm (9.5 in) in height and 60 cm (23.6 in) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue foliage maintains its color without scorching. The small size and neat habit make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, waxy leaves provide moderate resistance to slugs, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions.
