H. ‘Royal Super’

Overview

A medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Royal Standard', registered in 2000, 'Royal Super' forms a dense, mounding clump distinguished by medium green leaves with narrow, creamy white margins. The leaf blades are slightly shiny on both surfaces, measure 8 inches long by 5 inches wide, and bear eight to nine pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Royal Super' reaches a mature spread of 28 inches and a height of 20 inches, with scapes rising 20 to 24 inches. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white marginal variegation remains stable. The moderate growth rate and compact habit suit it for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded rockeries; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if needed.
