Overview
Registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh from stock originating at Reginald Kaye Nursery, *Hosta* 'Reginald Kaye' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its upright, compact habit and variegated foliage. The leaves are ovate with cordate bases, dark green with slightly rippled margins, very shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with ten prominent vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Reginald Kaye' forms a clump 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (48.3 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate and upright posture. Its compact size and curled, textured foliage suit it for the middle to front of a shaded border or as a specimen in a mixed woodland garden. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
