Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Regal Tot' is a small, slow-growing hybrid between *H.* 'Gold Regal' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Shining Tot' (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with flat golden yellow margins, a slight upper gloss, and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
Mature plants form a low, dense mound 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) tall and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter. The ovate, lightly cupped and wavy leaves measure 4 inches (10.2 cm) long by 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, with seven vein pairs and good substance. The scape rises 10 to 14 inches (25.4 to 35.6 cm) and is golden yellow. This hosta performs best in partial to light shade, typical of blue-leaved cultivars, and is well suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its compact size. It pairs effectively with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage young foliage, but the leaf substance offers moderate resistance; deer will browse this cultivar if accessible.
