Overview

Registered in 2010 by M. Zilis, *Hosta* 'Blonde Elf' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Amy Aden' distinguished by its small, dense mound of blue-green leaves with broad, golden yellow margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, have a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, with 9 to 10 vein pairs and moderately wavy edges.

In the Garden

'Blonde Elf' forms a compact, fast-growing mound 10 inches (25.4 cm) tall and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain bright without scorching. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas that complement its tidy habit.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Blonde Elf' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
