Section classIII-1

Overview

Registered in 1993, 'Raven' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Fortunei Hyacinthina'*. It is visually distinctive for its variegated foliage, featuring dark green margins surrounding a lighter leaf center, with leaves that have a rounded base and nine pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Raven' reaches a mature clump diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and a height of 15 inches (38.1 cm), with scapes extending 20 to 30 inches (50.8 to 76.2 cm) tall. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is suitable for border plantings, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover in shaded beds. Its medium size makes it appropriate for combination with other shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in the garden.
