Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Pennies from Heaven' is a miniature cultivar derived from *H. 'Vanilla Cream'* as the pod parent, with an unknown pollen parent. It forms a dense, spreading clump of nearly round, light green leaves with slightly rippled margins, the variegation pattern producing a muted, two-toned effect on a compact plant.

In the Garden

This miniature hosta reaches 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and spreads to 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its light green foliage and medium lavender flowers (borne on green scapes up to 15 inches/38.1 cm tall) provide subtle contrast. Its small stature and wavy, rounded leaves make it well suited for troughs, rock gardens, or the front of shaded borders, where it can be paired with other miniature hostas or small ferns.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the tender new leaves.
