Section classV-1

Overview

Registered in 2009, this miniature hosta originated as a cross between a golden yellow sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Dimples' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Shining Tot' (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its compact mound of apple-green foliage, with leaves displaying light green, slightly rippled margins and a fast growth rate that quickly fills its allotted space.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Appletini' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter. Its miniature size and fast growth make it well-suited for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where its bright foliage provides contrast against darker-leaved companions such as *Heuchera* or ferns. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and benefits from protection from intense afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents or barriers may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
