Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Collector's Choice' is a miniature cultivar derived from *Hosta ventricosa* as the pod parent, with an unknown pollen parent. Its distinctive appearance arises from medium green leaves with flat margins, a dull surface on both sides, and an ovate shape with a rounded base, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
'Collector's Choice' reaches a mature size of 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter and 3 inches (7.6 cm) in height, making it suitable for small-scale garden spaces. It thrives in partial to full shade, typical of hostas, and pairs well with other miniature perennials such as dwarf ferns or *Heuchera* cultivars. Its compact size makes it an excellent candidate for troughs, rock gardens, or container plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and employ barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
