Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Ooh La La' is a large hybrid cultivar derived from *H. 'Sea Prize'* as the pod parent and *H. hypoleuca* as the pollen parent. Its most distinctive feature is the blue-green leaf center framed by creamy white margins, with the dark green border extending inward as a slightly rippled band approximately 3.13 inches (8.0 cm) wide.
In the Garden
'Ooh La La' reaches a mature size of 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides is best preserved. The large, cordate leaves with 11 vein pairs and a slightly shiny upper surface make this cultivar suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds, paired with ferns or shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
