Hosta ‘Number Nine’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2015
Section classIII-2

Overview

Registered in 2015 by an unnamed hybridizer, 'Number Nine' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its blue-green, moderately wavy leaves with grayish blue, slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides. The foliage is borne on red-mottled petioles, and the leaves are relatively thick, ovate with rounded bases, dull on the upper surface, and feature six to seven pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Number Nine' forms an upright, fast-growing clump reaching approximately 16.5 inches (41.9 cm) in height and 24.4 inches (61.9 cm) in diameter. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium stature makes it appropriate for border fronts, woodland gardens, or container plantings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While relatively thick leaves offer some resistance, monitor for slug and deer damage in susceptible areas.
