Overview

Registered in 2012, 'Nine Nine Nine' is a giant hosta of unknown parentage, distinguished by its nearly round, variegated leaves with dark green margins and a flat, dull surface. The cultivar produces a dense, mound-like habit reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, with fast growth rate.

In the Garden

This hosta performs best in partial to full shade, typical of the genus, where its substantial foliage can develop fully without scorching. At maturity, it forms a broad mound approximately two feet tall and over two feet wide, making it suitable as a specimen or accent in shaded borders, woodland gardens, or large container plantings. Its large, rounded leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges.
