Overview

Registered in 2010 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Mouse Ears', 'Mystic Mouse' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by a light green, flame-shaped center that emerges against a blue-green leaf, a variation from its parent. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, lightly folded, and measure 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) long by 1.9 inches (4.8 cm) wide, with eight vein pairs and flat margins. The leaf surface is dull on top with a glaucous bloom underneath, while the scape rises 5.1 to 6.3 inches (13.0 to 16.0 cm) high and is green.

In the Garden

'Mystic Mouse' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 10.4 inches (26.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is well-suited to partial shade, typical of hostas, and its small stature makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants include other miniature hostas, small ferns, or woodland groundcovers such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, protect from deer and slugs, which may damage the foliage.
