Overview
Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Mouse Ears', 'Flamenco Mouse' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its heavily quilted and folded blue-green leaves with medium green margins. The leaf margins are so significantly ruffled and pinched that the edges draw inward to within one inch, creating a distinctive crinkled appearance.
In the Garden
'Flamenco Mouse' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in diameter with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its miniature size makes it an excellent container specimen, pairing well with other small shade perennials such as miniature ferns or *Heuchera* cultivars.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, 'Flamenco Mouse' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small, textured leaves may be less appealing to slugs than larger-leaved cultivars.
