Overview

Registered in 1989 by J. & J. Wilkins, this giant hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta montana* 'Aureomarginata'. It is visually distinctive for its large, upright, glossy leaves with dark green margins and a prominent variegated center, reaching a substantial 62 inches in diameter and 28 inches in height.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Mount Fuji' performs best in partial to full shade, where its substantial foliage can develop fully without scorching. Its giant size—over 5 feet in spread—makes it a commanding specimen for the back of a shaded border or as a focal point in a woodland garden. Pair with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its bold, upright form; it is too large for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the large, tender leaves.
