Overview
Registered in 2015 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Midnight Dream' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its exceptionally dark blue-green foliage. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, measuring 13 inches (33.0 cm) long and 11.25 inches (28.6 cm) wide, with 15 vein pairs, slightly rippled margins, and a lightly folded, wavy, and corrugated texture. The upper surface is slightly shiny, while the underside is dull.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 72 inches (182.9 cm) and height of 32 inches (81.3 cm), 'Midnight Dream' requires ample space in partial to full shade. Its upright habit and large, dark leaves make it suitable as a specimen or for the back of a shaded border, where it pairs well with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials. This cultivar is not suited for container cultivation due to its giant size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
