Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Patriot' registered in 1999, 'Mademoiselle' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its unusual reverse coloration: pure white leaf centers framed by medium to dark green, slightly rippled margins. The leaves are notably shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with six vein pairs and a tapered base.

In the Garden

'Mademoiselle' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for variegated hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded container plantings.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Mademoiselle' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
